Introduction

The Association for Rational Emotive Therapy (ARET) first published the journal, The Rational-Emotive Therapist in 1993. The creator of Rational Emotive Therapy, Albert Ellis decided to change the name of the approach to Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) so to keep up-to-date, ARET changed their name to the Association for Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (AREBT) and the journal became The Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapist.

However, there has been an extended break in its publication for over a decade which has led to AREBT members not having a journal to share their ideas about rational emotive behaviour psychotherapy, counselling, coaching, training, consultancy and supervision. To coincide with our annual conference, we have re-launched the journal in an online format. The first articles reflect the conference papers and workshop (Palmer. 2025; Palmer, S. & O’Riordan, 2025).

In 2026 we will be providing more information about submissions. Key changes since the last volume are that AI created and refined content will not be accepted. The referencing style will be APA 7 ie the 7th edition of the American Psychological Association (APA) style guide. Paper length will be a maximum of 1500 words. All correspondence will be email. The journal is now listed in the Academic Resource Index.

We look forward to publishing articles in the journal in 2026.
